To develop Perspecti, the Academic Board and Brepols work in close collaboration.
The main role of the Academic Board is to provide input regarding the needs of the academic community, and to provide feedback on the development of Perspecti.
The Academic Board is chaired by Tim Engels of the University of Antwerp, Belgium. The members of the Academic Board contribute to Perspecti on a voluntary basis, driven by a shared commitment as scholars to support infrastructures that serve the academic community. We invest our expertise in the development of Perspecti because we see it as a tool that can meaningfully advance research and scholarly communication.
In developing Perspecti, we carefully consider the possible uses of the database and their implications to ensure the needs of the academic community are represented.
We strongly support and underline the following principles, as defined in the Leiden Manifesto for Research Metrics, the Helsinki Initiative for Multilingualism in Scholarly Communication, or similar statements:
- Quantitative information should support and not replace qualitative, expert assessment.
- Excellent locally relevant research is essential in the humanities.
- By embracing multilingualism, Perspecti will, for the first time, systematically highlight non-English publications, which is prominent in the humanities.
- Keep data collection and analytical processes open, transparent and simple.
- The main interface will be open and accessible to anyone (for personal and non-commercial purposes).
- The Academic Board has access to the full database and its underlying workings for transparency, scholarly analysis, studies, and guidance on the development of Perspecti.
- Any researcher will have free access to the full publication metadata of their own publications, and can provide feedback regarding identification and linking of these publications.
- Account for variation by field in publication and citation practices:
- Perspecti aims to accommodate the differences in research and publication practices across and within disciplines. A variety of publication types important to the humanities will be included, such as monographs, book chapters and text editions.
